EDIBLES IN FLORIDA

After three long years the State of Florida has finally released the rules and regulations for Medical Marijuana Edibles allowing our MMTC’s to produce and offer them to patients.

Patients must first qualify for a Medical Marijuana recommendation from a state-certified Florida Marijuana Doctor. Existing patients can contact their physician and ask for the edible route to be added to their profile.

 

WHAT ARE EDIBLES

Medical Marijuana edibles are a form of ingestible cannabis. The effects of edibles can be long lasting and effective for many different medical conditions. Side effects can include relaxation, increase of appetite, quality sleep, anxiety relief and euphoria to name a few.

The approved forms of edibles are food products, (restrictions apply), Lozenges, Gelatins, baked goods, Chocolates (restrictions apply) and Drink Powders. There are many rules that govern the sizes, shapes, the other ingredients and they must all be marked with a universal symbol.

DOSING

The state has mandated that one single serving portion cannot exceed 10 milligrams of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

A multiple serving edible shall not exceed a total of 200 milligrams of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

Edibles are a discreet and simple way to get your daily dose of cannabis. They are a great alternative for patients who do not tolerate smoking or do not wish to inhale.

The full effects of an edible may take longer than what the patient is accustomed to. The body has to break down the food in the stomach prolonging the onset. However, the effects can last 5-6 hours making it a convenient choice. All effects vary based on an individual’s biology, the dose and edible.

It is always best to start with a low dose and slowly work yourself up. While a standard dose is considered 10 mg, anyone new to cannabis or to edibles should start at half that dose.
